Five Star Review- A Change of Fortune

5 Star Review
A Change of Fortune by Jen Turano

Book Blurb:

Lady Eliza Sumner is on a mission. After losing her family, her fiancé, and her faith, the disappearance of her fortune is the last straw. Now, masquerading as Miss Eliza Sumner, governess-at-large, she’s determined to find the man who ran off with her fortune, reclaim the money, and head straight back to London.

Much to Mr. Hamilton Beckett’s chagrin, all the eyes of New York society–all the female ones, at least–are on him. Unfortunately for all the matchmaking mothers and eligible daughters, he has no plans to marry again, especially with his hands full keeping his business afloat and raising his two children alone.

When Eliza’s hapless attempts to regain her fortune put her right in Hamilton’s path, sparks instantly begin to fly. The discovery of a common nemesis causes them to join forces, but with all their plans falling by the wayside and their enemies getting the better of them, it will take a riot of complications for Hamilton and Eliza to realize that God just might have had a better plan in mind all along

My Thoughts:

A Change of Fortune was my very first read by author Jen Turano, a delightful novel from beginning to end. I loved the rambunctious character Eliza Sumner, as a red-head myself I can relate. Eliza comes to America in search of the man who stole her fortune and her title. So buried in her anger and bitterness, she comes close to losing the best thing that ever happened to her—meeting Hamilton Beckett and his very precious children. This story keeps you guessing with its twists and turns from the initial escapades that land Eliza and Agatha in jail, to the same two girls performing a rescue attempt by climbing a tree is trousers!

Turano’s first novel met all my expectations of a good Christian book—well-balanced between the silly and the serious, a good blend of romance and mystery, and characters growing in their relationship with the Lord. The secondary characters will leave you in stitches—a match-making mother, a spunky best friend, an all too opinionated private inspector, and two adorable children (one which has a nasty habit of biting people).

I am now a fan of this author and will return to her stories again and again for wonderful tales of faith, hysterics, and sweet love.

I also discovered a companion story: Gentleman of Her Dreams. Download for free at this link-

When I checked out this book at the library, I was unaware that this book was the first in a series. I’m looking forward to continuing these stories in the rest of the Ladies of Distinction series.

A Most Peculiar Circumstance
A Talent for Trouble
A Match of Wits.
