His Encouragement #13- Ponder

I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 KJV

This past weekend, I had the privilege of playing the part of Mary in our church’s recent Walk Through Bethlehem- a live recreation of the city of Bethlehem when Christ was born. Several times as I sat in the stable waiting for guests to walk by, I began to ponder what it might have been like for Mary.

There’s a song I like to sing as a special around Christmas time called “Heaven’s Child.” One of the lines goes like this, “She rocked her tiny baby to warm him from the cold, hardly what she pictured in the prophecies of old.”

I don’t know all of what was running through Mary’s mind that night. I’m sure she was thinking of the message the angel gave her. She marveled at the story the shepherds told, imagine them explaining how they found out about the baby!

Every new mom holds their baby and thinks about the future. What kind of person their child is going to grow up to be? What kind of impression will they leave on the world? But Mary already knew. The angel told her that her baby was the Son of God and would be the Savior of all Mankind!

So, like Mary, this Christmas amidst all the hustle and bustle, don’t forget to ponder the Christ-child– the true reason of the season. Remember why he came!

What scripture is encouraging you today? Share it with us!

A beautiful message for today! I did not really ponder what it must have been like for Mary until I had my first child, and then I was blown away. This young woman, really still a teenager, was truly an admirable and godly person to be chosen out of all of the young women to be the mother of the Savior. The Lord knew her heart, like He knows ours, and He knew she was the right person to be Jesus’ mother and, with Joseph’s help, raise Him.

If the Lord chose His earthly parents so carefully, then surely He also knew exactly what He was doing when He chose me to be the mother of our two boys. Whenever I was feeling nervous or unsure of myself as a new mom (and then a mom of two little ones under the age of two!), my mom would tell me: “God chose YOU to be their mom. Not anyone else in the whole world. YOU. Trust in Him. He knows what He is doing.”

My church does a living nativity as well! It sounds like they run a bit differently though. Ours goes in tour groups so each scene is a stop on the tour. I’d be curious to know a little more about the difference. I didn’t even know they existed until my husband and I started dating.
Our posts go well together this week. I talked about Mary too. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a Merry Christmas!
