I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.
For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.Psalm 61:3 KJV
In our day and age being “sheltered” has a bad connotation. We think of it has someone (usually a child) who has been kept away from whatever it is that people think said child should have experienced in life. Interestingly enough, those “things” are always opposite of good, right, and wholesome. Why do we think it’s wrong to keep a child from even knowing about evil things, but then as Christians we want God to be our shelter and protect us from evil?
Is it not a good thing to protect our minds and bodies from the evil of this world? We should shelter our children and protect them from the heartache, moral debauchery, and addicting vices that threaten to steal their innocence and purity.
Just as we as parents should be a shelter for our children, God (as our father) is a shelter to which we can run. When the enemies’ attacks become too great, we have a strong tower we can enter and be safe. He will shelter us from all that threatens to harm us.
This world wants nothing more than to see Christians destroyed and their testimonies diminished or vanquished all together. They want to keep the word of God from having any influence on peoples hearts and souls. This world has nothing good to offer. And He is our shelter, our strong tower, that can and will protect us from our enemy, if we will allow him to shelter us.
I’m so thankful that I am sheltered by my God and that he is a strong tower that will keep me from harm.
