I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
Psalms 84:11 KJV
I actually meant to share this verse last week, but I’ve been sick with a head cold and didn’t feel like getting on my computer or even thinking…
Anyway, I just love this verse. I love the promise that it gives us as children of God. No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
No good thing.
But, you know, this verse doesn’t say that He will give you everything you want. It also doesn’t say that He won’t allow bad things to come your way.
It simply says that no good thing will be withheld from those who are walking uprightly. (That doesn’t mean walking with your body in a vertical line, by the way, it means walking according to God’s laws and principles.)
So, who gets to decide if something is a good thing? He does, of course. Who knows better what is good for you and what is not? Do we ask our children if they would rather have vegetables or cake for dinner? No. Why? Because they don’t know what’s good for them, but we as their parent knows what is best for their health.
God, as our heavenly Father, knows what is good for us. He knows far better than we do. He knows what is good for us and what is bad for us, and if we allow him to be in control he will not withhold the things (physical, emotional, spiritual) that will be of a benefit and a joy to our lives.
But sometimes, we don’t realize or understand the good things God has given us. Does a child understand why they have to eat veggies and not cake? No. Can they see the benefit that veggies have over cake? No. All they know is that they didn’t get cake and cake taste much better than veggies!
There may be times in your life that you feel like God keeps giving you veggies instead of cake, but at those times it is best to remember that even when we can see the benefit of those “veggies,” our Heavenly Father is doing what is best for us.
So, always remember to eat your veggies!
