For 2020, I have chosen Isiah 41:10 as my personal verse. This lead into a theme for this year’s His Encouragement posts. Each week, I will be looking at another “fear not” of the Bible. I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about trusting God and rooting out the fear in our lives.
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee… And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.Deuteronomy 31:6, 8 KJV
Did you know that most of our fears are based on a fear of failure? Just think about it. Why are people afraid to fly? They’re afraid the plane will fail to stay in the air. We’re afraid we’ll say the wrong words or do the wrong thing. Or that someone else will fail to follow the rules or fail to keep a promise. Have you ever had someone fail you? They let you down. They weren’t the person you thought they were. Maybe you were disappointed when they canceled plans, or maybe broke your heart when they walked away from you and God.
Here’s the deal, whether in small matters or large matters, people will fail us. They won’t meet expectations. They break promises. They make stupid decisions that make a mess of everything.
But you know you will never fail you? God. He will not fail you. Ever. He can reach far above our expectations. He always keeps his promises. He’s always faithful. Always on time. Always available day or night. And he never makes stupid decisions. Everything he does is done with wisdom and has your best interest at heart. He will never leave you. He will never forsake you. He will never unfriend you on Facebook or delete your number from his cell phone. He won’t unfollow you on Instagram. He won’t spread rumors about you. He won’t cancel plans at the last minute.
He is always reliable. He is always trust-worthy. He’s everything that people are not! Yes, people will fail you. But God will never fail you!
