For 2020, I have chosen Isiah 41:10 as my personal verse. This lead into a theme for this year’s His Encouragement posts. Each week, I will be looking at another “fear not” of the Bible. I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about trusting God and rooting out the fear in our lives.
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.2 Kings 6:16 KJV
In 2 Kings, chapter 6, the king of Syria has had enough of the prophet Elisha. Every time he goes to attack the Israelites, they already are prepared and it’s all because of Elisha, who forewarns the king of Israel of the king of Syria’s plans. So, the king of Syria sends this huge army to go kill Elisha.
“And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” (II Kings 6:15-17)
As Elisha’s servant looked around that morning, he saw the army of God surrounding the army of this human king. His army didn’t stand a chance against God’s army. As you finish reading the rest of the chapter, you find that God smote them with blindness and eventually sent them home in utter shame.
Today, I feel lead to remind you all that while the armies of Satan and this world have what seems like an overwhelming majority, and Christianity is the minority, the unseen army of God is more impressive than our enemies could ever hope to be.
“They that be with us are more than they that be with them.”
As Christians, we have a mighty army on our side against the powers of the enemy. They are powerless against our powerful God. They cannot do anything that is not within his sovereign plan. It is our duty to trust him to defend us, knowing that our enemies have no power without his permission. Anything he allows, he is allowing for a reason. We do not need to fear. He has everything within his control, even our enemies.
No matter the battle you are facing today, remember “They that be with us are more than they that be with them.”
