For 2020, I have chosen Isiah 41:10 as my personal verse. This lead into a theme for this year’s “His Encouragement” posts. Each week, I will look at another “fear not” Scripture of the Bible. I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about trusting God and rooting out the fear in our lives.
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Isaiah 35: 4 KJV
I read a Facebook post this week that got me to thinking. So many people are focused on the fact if you are afraid of this virus than you are living in fear. However, this post brought up a valid point. If you are afraid of economic collapse- you are still living in fear. If you are afraid of government overreach- you are still living in fear.
Fear is still fear no matter what it is that you are afraid of. We teach our children that to be afraid of the dark or afraid of thunder is a petty fear, but how often do we justify our “adult” fears? Does this make them any less petty in the eyes of Jehovah God? Is He unable to resolve and/or protect us from our grown-up fears? Is His power somehow bound because these fears are real and valid?
What are you fearing today?
Whatever it is, God will come and save you. He will bring vengeance on the evil doers, but He’ll do it in his timing. The fruit of the Spirit is still “love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance, against such there is no law.”
There will never be a law against exhibiting the fruit of walking with the Spirit, but what fruits are you allowing your “fears” to hide or crush? If we are living in fear, we may be missing opportunities to show forth the fruit of the Spirit (at the very least faith).
In your reaction to the Covid-19 Pandemic, are you showing…
Love?
Joy?
Peace?
Long-suffering?
Gentleness?
Goodness?
Faith?
Meekness?
Temperance?
Or are you living with a fearful heart?

Great post! I’m working hard to just give God all my fears and anxieties. It’s not easy. I’m always a WIP. 🙂

Fear shows up time after time but I love that God will come and save me. I certainly don’t want to miss the opportunity to exercise the fruit of the spirit. Thanks for your words of encouragement.

Excellent and timely. I struggle with turning my fears over to the Lord, especially now that I have children and a family to take care of, but the peace He gives when I do is more than worth it. God bless!
