For 2020, I have chosen Isiah 41:10 as my personal verse. This lead into a theme for this year’s “His Encouragement” posts. Each week, I will look at another “fear not” Scripture of the Bible. I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about trusting God and rooting out the fear in our lives.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.Psalm 4:8
Today’s verse does not contain the words “fear not.” It doesn’t even contain the word “fear” or “afraid.” But I want to share this verse with you today, anyway.
When I was in my teens, I memorized this Psalm and put the words to a melody in my head. Then at night, I would sing it to my sister to help her fall asleep. It brought comfort to my heart, too. I would fall asleep believing that God was in control, even in the dark. And that He would keep me safe while I slept.
“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
Isn’t it funny how we learn these principles as children, and yet, so easily forget when we become adults? I guess that’s why Jesus says we are to have the faith of a child. To take God at His word just as a child believes their parent when they promise everything is going to be okay.
Do you lay down in peace and sleep knowing that the Heavenly Father has everything under His control? Or do you lie awake at night somehow believeing that by staying up you can somehow control what happens?
What scripture is encouraging you today? Share it with us!
