For 2020, I have chosen Isiah 41:10 as my personal verse. This lead into a theme for this year’s “His Encouragement” posts. Each week, I will look at another “fear not” Scripture of the Bible. I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about trusting God and rooting out the fear in our lives.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
Luke 1:30 KJV
It would probably be a silly question to ask if you’ve wondered what Mary was thinking at that moment. I think we’ve all wondered what thoughts were going through her mind, and as we know from scriptures throughout the rest of the Christmas story, we know that Mary was a thinker. She pondered many things in her heart.
The angel appears to Mary and tells her to “fear not.” Why do you think? Is it just because anyone would be afraid if an angel appeared in the room? I don’t think so. I think there may be a whole lot more to that fear not than what appears on the surface. Of all the women in the world, God had chosen Mary in particular for the special task of bringing His son into the world. Not only did this task have considerable pressure but also had considerable consequence. God was asking a lot of this young woman. Everything was about to change.
Has God ever given you a task or path to accomplish that seemed insurmountable? The burden seemed too great for you to bear alone? The task impossible?
Fear not!
The angel’s last words to Mary were, “With God nothing shall be impossible.”
Whatever path that God has called you to walk, he’s not asking you to walk it alone. He is walking it beside you and nothing is impossible with Him.

I think Mary probably felt terrified, but she tells the Angel, “let it be according to your word.” In other words, not my will, but God’s. This has always struck me as one of the bravest moments in the Bible. For a young, Jewish woman in this time being pregnant outside of marriage could have been a death knell. But she follows God’s commands no matter what. That’s amazing trust!!!! Thank you for sharing today! 🙂
