His Encouragement #4- A Compassed Path

I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.

I’m very excited to share my personal verse for 2021 and begin a new journey together through the Word of God.

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

Psalm 16:11 KJV

This leads into a theme for this year’s His Encouragement posts. Each week, I will look at another “path” found in the Bible. We will also look at verses with the word “lead.” I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about God and the paths he has for us to take in our lives.

Today’s verse is Psalm 139:3, “Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.”

Psalm 139 is one of my absolute favorite passages of Scripture. I guess there’s just something about the assurance that God knows all about me and that He has been “keeping an eye on me” since I was formed in my mother’s womb.

When I looked up the Strong’s definition of the word compass(est), I received a shock. I’ve always believed this verse to be saying that God is encircling my path, that’s He’s surrounding me… and yet, this word “zarah” is only translated compass this one time. Every other time this word is used, it was translated as spread, or scatter, cast away, dispersed…

So, what does that mean for us today?

I believe it means that God has spread out my path before me. And although, sometimes I might feel like I am scattered like chaff in the wind, my path is not scattered to God. He knows exactly where I am at all times and He knows exactly what I am doing at all times.

He won’t lose you. He will never say, “Now, where did they go?” He doesn’t forget where He “put” you.

And I think that is a very comforting thought!!

What scripture is encouraging you today? Share it with us!
