I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.
I’m very excited to share my personal verse for 2021 and begin a new journey together through the Word of God.
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”Psalm 16:11 KJV
This leads into a theme for this year’s His Encouragement posts. Each week, I will look at another “path” found in the Bible. We will also look at verses with the word “lead.” I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about God and the paths he has for us to take in our lives.
Today’s verse is Proverbs 4:18, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”
Have you ever read a verse over and over and yet still missed the smallest of words? That happened to me as I read Proverbs 4:18. In my mind, I read “as A shining light.” That’s not what it says. It’s says, “as THE shining light.”
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”
This verse also begins with the word, BUT, so I looked at the verses surrounding verse 18. They speak about the wicked, then verse 19 talks about how the way of the wicked is darkness.
Then the light clicked on (pun intended).
There is only one path that has light. All other ways are darkness.
This is THE shining light, Jesus Christ. The just are those Jesus Christ, the only light of the world, has justified. Just like Matthew 5: 14 says, “Ye are the light of the world…” We are light because He is light. John 1: 7, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
What about that phrase, more and more?
Here’s where I got another surprise. The Hebrew word translated “more and more” in this passage, can also be “walked” or “continually.”
As you walk in the “path of the just,” the light of Jesus Christ will shine continually in your life, illuminating the world around you, until you reach that perfect day (that fixed, or established, day when you will be in His presence.)
Are you walking in the Light? Or have you noticed your pathway growing dim?
What scripture is encouraging you today? Share it with us!
