I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.
I’m very excited to share my personal verse for 2021 and begin a new journey together through the Word of God.
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”Psalm 16:11 KJV
This leads into a theme for this year’s His Encouragement posts. Each week, I will look at another “path” found in the Bible. We will also look at verses with the word “lead.” I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about God and the paths he has for us to take in our lives.
Today’s verse is Psalm 23: 4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
This past month, I faced a great trial. I contracted Covid-19 and after fighting the virus for 10 days; I had to be admitted to the hospital. I honestly don’t know how close to death I was or wasn’t, but there came a point the morning after they admitted me when I had to surrender my life to God. I had to come to a point when I had to be okay with either outcome, whether I got better or went to Heaven. I was walking through the valley of the shadow, and when I surrendered my will to His, a peace settled over me. He was with me. Each time the lab tech drew blood (my body was fighting it and so it was far more painful than normal), I would crawl into the arms of Jesus and I would sing to myself, “Safe in the arms of Jesus. Safe on his gentle breast. There by his love o’ershadowed sweetly my soul shall rest.” I’m very thankful God allowed me to recover and defeat the virus with the help of modern medicine.
I was in the hospital for six days before my oxygen levels were at a place they felt comfortable sending me home. I was very weak and fatigued easily. I’m still on oxygen 24/7, but my physical strength is coming back and I feel much better.
The point of this post is not to make you feel sorry for me, though I covet your prayers for my continued recovery, the point is to remind you He is with you during your darkest times. The path you are walking may lead you through the valley of the shadow, but He is still walking right there alongside you. And if the path gets too scary, you can crawl into his arms and allow him to carry you through the darkness. I promise you, light is on the other side.
