I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.
I’m very excited to share my personal verse for 2021 and begin a new journey together through the Word of God.
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”Psalm 16:11 KJV
This leads into a theme for this year’s His Encouragement posts. Each week, I will look at another “path” found in the Bible. We will also look at verses with the word “lead.” I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about God and the paths he has for us to take in our lives.
Today’s verse is Psalm 139:24,”And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
This past week, and this coming weekend, my family and I (and some friends) have been heading up a garage sale. Another family donated most of the items for sale. They meant it to be a blessing to our church, to sell the donations and raise money for a special project. (An extra, if you will.) My family and some others donated the rest of the things we’re selling.
As I thought this over this morning, I noticed a Biblical correlation and spiritual application.
As Christians, we can give (intangible) things away for one of two reasons.
Reason #1- To get rid of extra weight.
Hebrews 12:1 KJV, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…”
The first reason to have a spiritual “yard sale” is to get rid of things that are weighing you down. The Bible speaks of many negative things that are weights and sins in our lives that keep us from running the race set before us. It’s time to clean those things out of your life. I don’t recommend passing them on to others like you would in a yard sale, but the principle is the same—get rid of things you don’t need. Don’t allow the weights of this life to slow you down from serving God.
Reason #2- To be a blessing to others.
Luke 6:38 KJV, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
The second reason to have a spiritual yard sale is to be a blessing to others. Are there ways that God has blessed you that you could pass on that blessing to another? Whether that be a lesson, or a financial blessing, or even a reminder from Scripture? Don’t be stingy with the blessings of God. Pass it on!
What scripture is encouraging you today? Share it with us!
