Introducing Kathryn Elizabeth Jones!
Kathryn is a lover of words and a bearer of mood swings. When she is feeling the need to inspire, she writes a Christian fiction book. If a mystery is waiting to be uncovered, she finds it. If something otherworldly is finding its way through her fingertips, she travels to it.
Kathryn has been a reader since she was a young child. Although she took classes in writing as a teen, it wasn’t something she really thought would become her career until she was married. And even then, it took a few more years for something worthy enough to publish to manifest itself.
Kathryn’s first book was published in 2002. Since then, many other books have found their way out of her head, depending on the sort of day she is having. Kathryn is a journalist, a teacher, a mentor, an editor, a publisher, and a marketer.
Her greatest joy, other than writing her next book, is meeting with readers and authors who enjoy the craft of writing as much as she does.

Interview with Kathryn
- When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
In high school I enjoyed writing, but it wasn’t until I was married that I really gained an interest. I wasn’t very good at it – how many of us are in the beginning? But I kept add it, and still do, because I am always learning things to improve my writing and marketing.
- What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
Hmmm, this question is always difficult for me to answer because I have a funny feeling I don’t have a writing quirk. If you mean I don’t write until my house is straightened or the mowing gets done every few days in the morning – you guess it, I do the mowing – then I guess this could be a writing quirk. But I don’t have to eat chocolate or drink a certain drink or play music necessarily to get the muse flowing. I guess my desk has to be cleaned off first from the previous day so that I can start fresh. Perhaps that’s it.
- Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
I usually get my information from the internet and books I have either borrowed from someone or checked out at the library. Ideas come from various sources; from others mostly. But I do get some great ideas from my journaling time in the morning and from paying attention to how others market their books.
- What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I love to hike and to read. I also enjoy home decorating. I love getting great deals on furniture, pillows, pictures, etc., and trying to make my home look like it came out of one of those decorating magazines.
- What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
Editing takes longer than you think and marketing is the hard part after you get your book written.
- What’s your favorite part about being a writer? Research? First Draft? Editing?
I love that first draft where I can just write and not be bothered by periods, semicolons and incomplete sentences. That will come later. Much later.
- What do you think makes a good story?
Speaking from the heart. Making the characters feel something unique to themselves. Setting is equally important, but if not for real characters, the setting they surround themselves in means nothing.
- As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
An airline stewardess. Yes, that makes me pretty old seeing as they are now called flight attendants. Interestingly enough, I still want to travel but I do it with books J
- How do we find your books?
