From the author of Walking on Sea Glass … He’s a big city lawyer. She’s the small town beach girl who broke his heart. Any hope for a second chance expired twelve years earlier …
Jax Cooper returns to Saltwater Beach but has no plans to stay any longer than necessary. Once his mother’s estate is wrapped up, he’ll be on a plane back to Chicago—and hopefully to a future as the youngest law partner in his firm.
Addi Barrett never left the small beach town of Saltwater. She chose instead to dote on her ailing mother, help her father’s business, and find new friendships in old places. That didn’t mean she never had dreams of her own …
When a Cooper family member goes missing, a foster dog needs some lovin’, and a long-hidden secret bubbles to the surface, Jax and Addi find themselves thrown together over and over again.
Can they find their way to a second chance at love? Or will past hurts rise up to make happily-ever-after impossible?
Reunion in Saltwater Beach Excerpt 7
Pink, blue, and white balloons. A two-tiered cake. And dogs. Everywhere.
Holding their mother’s memorial inside a doggy day care was as upside down as he could fathom. She had opened the place after their father died, and it had brought happiness amid heavy sorrow. It also brought her a reputation for taking in some of the mangiest creatures Jax had ever seen—dogs that had no owners, and therefore, no way to pay. Eventually, she would find them a foster parent or new home, but not before she poured time and effort into them.
On one of their regular video calls once, he’d told her, “You really should keep to just looking after other people’s pets, the kind that only visit every once in a while.”
She laughed at him, pulled one stray onto her lap, and kissed its ratty little noggin. “Aw, he doesn’t mean it, sugar.”
Maybe she was right. If it meant seeing his mother smile across the miles, he guessed a mangy mutt or two would be okay. Still, a memorial here? Jax shook his head and followed his sister out of the gathering space and into the kitchen, where a few helpers bustled about.
Lily was saying something about Jax being a sight for sore eyes when he suddenly stopped after spotting … her.
The woman who had broken his heart more than a decade earlier. The sight of her pounded on his heart, pushed tumbleweeds into his head, and made his ever-ready tongue go slack.
Addi Barrett’s power over him had not faded, and he hated himself for that.
